Coronation

Wednesday 20 January 2010.

When the candle burns brightly
And the tongues of flame
Dance to the music lightly
I forget my name

In that illumined hour
I am a thing without merit
A space between the twin towers
A spark of the spirit

When the windy kiss kindles the fire
The bride yields her hand gently
To the groom whose empire
Prostrates silently

In that illumined moment
I am a thing without power
A slave unchained from his torment
A servant and lover

When the candle burns brightly
And the tongues of flame
Dance to the music lightly
I have no name
